What's New?

Along with school shows and parties, Lp was thrilled to be contracted for run-of-festival performances at the 2010 Vancouver International Children’s Festivals in May. He is excited about doing more festival work in 2011/2012 as well as finishing his 3rd album of original music.

Spice Kapita. That Dancin’ Guy is finally a reality. After four years of work this beautifully illustrated 38-page hard cover picture book is now available (July 2011). Also look for a whole new body of work from Lp based on his Tanka poetry in the coming years. This is a truly exciting new writing direction for Lp.

What is Lp's background?

Lp used to sing Christmas carols and kids songs with his Mom. The school choir was fun. In university he taught myself how to play harmonica because everyone played guitar. And he has been playing harmonica for almost 30 years. Lp has now been playing guitar for almost five years on stage and likes his “The Neil Young for Kids” moniker that he picked up at the Vancouver International Children’s Festival in 2010. He sings his kids songs whenever he feels like it - especially when he is feeling blue.

What does Lp stand for?

Long playing.

Why did Lp write these songs?

He really felt that boys (and their parents) need music that talks about their daily lives and the frustrations and problems they face. Lp believes that even kids get the blues. Boys in particular today need better mentoring, positive male role models and ways to express themselves. Therefore, he tried to write the songs for boys from the perspective of an eight-year-old. He wants his music to entertain children while being musically appealing to their parents who have to listen to it endlessly. Many parents like the music because it reminds them of when they were young. And they can even get free children's music by joining Lp's family.

What prompted Lp to get started?

Both his parents passed away in the last few years. He wanted to do something special in his mid life. And he discovered some of the reasons he is what he is including many years of being a victim of bullying. And his kids thought it was a good idea. So much so, that two of them worked on the CD with Lp.

Where did Lp get these ideas?

Lp was the oldest of seven children. Then he and his wife had three children and he became truly concerned about parenting and education. So he led Parent Advisory Councils in both elementary and high schools helping both students and parents.

Does Lp know Canada well?

Yes. He is a true Canadian singer/songwriter/author because his blood is red. He was born in Rossland, British Columbia in 1952, lived in Ontario from 1956-1986 and married a Quebec francophone. He met his wife in New Brunswick where they were both on solo bicycle trips. They raised their three kids in BC from 1986-2001 and settled in Montreal, Quebec from 2001-present. Lp has driven across the country several times. His favorite place in Canada is a small bass-filled lake in the Kawartha's in Ontario. And of course - the BC mountains - for skiing.

What is Lp's professional performing status?
